Ghanaian Appeal Court Judge Advocates Sustained Investment in Cleantech and Health Innovation at Global Summit

A Justice of Ghana’s Court of Appeal, Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, has called on governments and financial institutions to prioritize sustained investment in cleantech and health innovation, describing such funding as critical to national resilience and economic transformation.

Speaking at the Global Economic Diversification Summit in Edmonton, Canada, Justice Oppong emphasized that while Ghana has made commendable strides in establishing legal frameworks to support innovation in the cleantech and health sectors, continuous financial commitment remains necessary to sustain progress.

The high-profile panel discussion, themed “Investing in Resilience: Financial Models for Cleantech and Health Innovation,” was organized by the GED Council and hosted by Dr. Kwame Adinkrah.

Justice Oppong highlighted Ghana’s proposed Women’s Bank initiative as a strategic intervention to strengthen financial inclusion and support women-led enterprises, particularly in the cleantech industry.

According to him, the initiative has the potential to empower female entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by improving access to capital for innovative and environmentally sustainable businesses.

“The Women’s Bank will not only enhance financial inclusion but also directly support female-led innovations in clean technology,” he stated, while urging both government and private sector stakeholders to support targeted financing models capable of addressing climate and health-related challenges.

Justice Oppong further underscored the importance of the legal and judicial systems in fostering innovation through stable and forward-looking regulatory frameworks thatencourage investment and long-term development.

The summit brought together global policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and development experts to examine strategies for reducing dependence on traditional extractive economies and promoting diversified, innovation-driven growth.
