KNUST acts to curb reckless driving linked to student election victories

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced stricter measures to address reckless and dangerous driving on campus, particularly incidents linked to student election campaigns and celebrations.

The university says it has observed an increasing number of cases involving excessive speeding and hazardous vehicle processions, especially following the declaration of student election results.

Under the new measures, students found engaging in reckless driving or other dangerous conduct will face disciplinary action in line with the university’s rules and regulations.

The KNUST Security Services have also been directed to stop and impound vehicles involved in reckless driving on campus.

The university says groups of students found participating in unlawful and unsafe activities will be apprehended and handed over to the police. Their identities will subsequently be established, with further internal disciplinary action taken where necessary.

Management explained that the measures are aimed at protecting the lives and property of students, staff and other members of the university community.

The university has therefore urged students to celebrate responsibly and avoid conduct that could endanger others or damage the reputation of the institution.

Management has appealed to all students to cooperate with the new measures as the university moves to promote safety and responsible behaviour on campus.
