President John Dramani Mahama said on Thursday that his administration would pursue equitable development across Ghana, rejecting the notion that any region should be neglected because of its voting patterns.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for a 24-Hour Economy Market in Juapong in the Volta Region, Mahama said the government’s development agenda would be guided by fairness and equal opportunity for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation or geographical location.
“Let me assure you that this government that I lead does not regard the Volta Region merely as a region of loyal political support,” Mahama said.
“We reject the notion that any part of Ghana should be taken for granted or left behind because of its electoral choices.”
He said the government’s mandate was to serve all Ghanaians and that development projects would be implemented based on equity rather than political considerations.
“Our mandate given to us by the people of Ghana is to govern the country for every Ghanaian, and our commitment to the Volta Region is founded on fairness and equity,” he said.
The Juapong market project forms part of the government’s proposed 24-hour economy programme, which aims to expand commercial activity, create jobs and improve trading infrastructure across the country.
The ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, market traders, youth groups and residents, many of whom welcomed the project as a major investment expected to modernise trading facilities in the South Tongu District.
