Suspended KATH CEO pleads with striking staff to return to work

The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. (Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to striking staff of the facility to return to duty in the interest of patients and the general public.

In a statement addressed to all staff members on Monday, June 8, Dr. Baidoo expressed gratitude to workers for what he described as their show of solidarity during the ongoing developments at the hospital.

He, however, urged staff to resume work while awaiting the outcome of discussions and decisions by the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to Dr. Baidoo, returning to duty is necessary to protect the welfare of patients and ensure the continued delivery of healthcare services.

The appeal comes amid tensions following his suspension, a decision that has sparked reactions from sections of the hospital’s workforce, including the Health Services Workers’ Union.

Dr. Baidoo also reaffirmed his commitment to the vision and agenda of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is one of Ghana’s leading referral and teaching hospitals, serving patients across the Ashanti Region and beyond.

Authorities are yet to provide further details on the matter as stakeholders await the outcome of ongoing consultations.
