The Acting Public Relations Officer of the United States Embassy in Ghana, Matthew Asada, has urged Ghanaians planning to travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be honest during their visa interviews.
Speaking in an interview on Focus FM, Mr. Asada stated that truthfulness remains one of the most important factors considered by consular officers during the visa application process.
He explained that applicants must be able to clearly state the reason for their trip, demonstrate that they have enough financial resources to cater for themselves, and convince officers that they will return to Ghana after the tournament.
His remarks come as many football fans and travellers begin preparations towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Mr. Asada disclosed that the U.S. Embassy in Accra has increased its visa processing capacity by deploying additional visa officers, a move he said has helped reduce waiting periods for appointments.
He stressed that there have been no special changes to visa requirements because of the World Cup, noting that all applicants are assessed under the same standard procedures used for tourism, education, business and other travel purposes.
Mr. Asada further encouraged Ghanaians to take advantage of opportunities offered through the American Center and other educational and cultural programmes organised by the U.S. Embassy across the country.
