GRIDCo assures customers as engineers work to restore power after outage

Ghana’s Interconnected Transmission System experienced a major power system disturbance in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, resulting in widespread interruptions to electricity supply across parts of the country.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said the incident occurred at about 3:11 a.m., leading to the simultaneous tripping of several generating plants connected to the national power system.

In a statement, GRIDCo said the disturbance affected electricity supply in some areas but assured the public that restoration efforts had begun immediately.

“GRIDCo has activated its established system restoration procedures. Our engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore power within the shortest time possible without compromising safety,” the company said.

The transmission company said its technical teams were working to restore supply to affected customers while ensuring the stability and safety of the power system.

GRIDCo added that a comprehensive technical investigation had commenced to determine the exact cause of the disturbance and identify any measures needed to prevent similar occurrences.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the outages and thanked customers for their patience and understanding as restoration activities continue.

GRIDCo said it would provide further updates as more information becomes available.
