The Ashanti Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament has rallied behind the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his recent conviction and sentence.
The caucus says it respects the judicial process but believes the development has brought deep concern among party members and supporters, making it important for them to show solidarity with their regional chairman.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Ashanti Caucus, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq., the MPs urged NPP members and sympathisers to join a planned vigil in honour of Chairman Wontumi.
The vigil is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Campaign Office in Kumasi.
The caucus said the gathering will provide an opportunity for party members to offer prayers, encouragement, and support to Wontumi as he pursues the legal options available to him.
“We believe Chairman Wontumi deserves our prayers, encouragement, and solidarity at this moment,” the statement said.
The MPs called on constituency executives, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, TESCON members, identifiable groups, and all NPP faithful to attend the event in their numbers.
They described the vigil as a demonstration of the party’s unity and resilience, stressing that the NPP’s strength has always been rooted in its ability to stand together during challenging times.
“Together, we stand. Together, we remain stronger,” the caucus said.
