The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA)Richard Ofori Boadi Agyeman has revealed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, played a significant role in supporting businesses affected by the road construction project at the Bekwai Roundabout in Kumasi.
Speaking on Pure Morning Drive with Dr. Kwame Adinkrah, the Mayor disclosed that the Asantehene facilitated the relocation of the affected businesses from the Bekwai Roundabout to the Santasi Roundabout by securing a new site and providing financial support for the process.
According to him, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II provided GH¢5 million to assist with the relocation and compensation of the affected persons whose businesses were impacted by the road project.
“The intervention by Otumfuo was very important because it ensured that the affected businesses had a place to relocate and the necessary support to continue their activities,” the Mayor said.
He explained that the Asantehene’s support helped reduce the impact of the construction works on traders and business owners while allowing the city’s development agenda to proceed smoothly.
The Mayor commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his commitment to improving the welfare of residents and contributing to development efforts in Kumasi and Ghana as a whole.
He added that the Asantehene’s actions demonstrate his dedication to ensuring that development projects are carried out with consideration for the livelihoods of affected communities.
“Otumfuo continues to show leadership and concern for the people. His contributions go beyond Asanteman and reflect a commitment to national development,” he stated.
