Iran says US revoked World Cup ticket allocation for supporters

Iran’s football federation has accused the United States of revoking its ticket allocation for World Cup group-stage matches, claiming the move is aimed at preventing Iranian supporters from attending the tournament.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the federation said the decision comes amid ongoing diplomatic tensions and alleged visa restrictions affecting members of its delegation.

“With less than three days remaining until the start of the 2026 World Cup… the United States has once again acted to obstruct the presence of Iranian supporters at the stadiums hosting the national team’s three group stage matches,” the statement said.

The federation further claimed FIFA regulations entitle each participating nation to an eight percent ticket allocation for matches, which it says had already been used to begin sales for fixtures against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt.

“However, in an unexpected move, the allocation granted to the Iranian Football Federation has been withdrawn, and under the current circumstances, the federation is unable to provide even a single ticket to supporters of the national team,” it added.

Iran described the situation as “contrary to the spirit governing international competitions and the principle of equality among participating countries,” and urged FIFA and tournament organisers to intervene.

Neither FIFA nor US organisers have publicly responded to the allegations.

The dispute adds to rising tensions surrounding Iran’s participation, following earlier complaints over visa delays affecting members of its delegation.

Iran will begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, before facing Belgium and Egypt in subsequent group matches.
