The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says four people were rescued and one person feared dead after a two-storey apartment building collapsed at Adenta New Site in the capital following heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening.
The structure, located near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket, gave way during a rainstorm, trapping five occupants beneath the debris.
GNFS personnel, supported by teams from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, responded to a distress call at about 1836 GMT and began rescue operations at the scene.
Four victims, including two children, were pulled from the rubble alive but sustained injuries. They were transported to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams also retrieved a dog trapped in the debris during the operation.
A fifth victim, identified as Margaret Kpeli, was later recovered unconscious and handed over to the Adenta District Police for further procedures.
The joint operation, involving the GNFS, the Ghana Police Service, medical teams and community volunteers, continued into the night and concluded on Thursday after an extensive search effort.
The GNFS has commended residents and emergency responders for assisting in the operation, while investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
