Asantehene destools Ahafo Kenyase No. 2 chief after 92-year reign

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Ahafo Kenyase No. 2, Odeneho Dadeako Kwabena Nsia Ababio, bringing to an end one of the longest reigns in the history of the Asante Kingdom.

The decision was taken on Sunday, July 27, 2026. The chief’s elders were also destooled, although the Kontihene and the Okyeame were exempted from the action.

Odeneho Dadeako Kwabena Nsia Ababio was regarded as the longest-serving chief in Asanteman, having occupied the stool for 92 years.

During his reign, he oversaw decades of social, cultural and political developments within the Asante Kingdom, making him one of the most notable traditional rulers in its history.

The reason for the destoolment has not yet been disclosed by the Asantehene.
