The Lawra Circuit Court has sentenced a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaelcuu, to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after convicting him of incest involving his 17-year-old biological daughter.
The court also sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for threatening the life of the survivor. The sentences will run concurrently.
The conviction followed investigations by the Lawra District Police Command after a complaint was lodged against the accused.
According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, investigations established that the convict repeatedly sexually abused his daughter, a Junior High School student, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse.
Presiding judge His Honour Stanley Adjei delivered the judgment on Friday, July 24, 2026, after finding Ti-Zaaelcuu guilty of incest and threat of death.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their role in securing the conviction, describing their work as professional and diligent.
The Command also urged members of the public to report cases of sexual abuse and domestic violence promptly to the police to ensure perpetrators are prosecuted and survivors receive the necessary protection and support.
