An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Ghanaian TikToker Camilla Alhassan to one year in prison after she pleaded guilty to charges of offensive conduct and publication of false news over videos containing false allegations about President John Dramani Mahama.
Alhassan, 43, was convicted on Thursday after admitting to all charges brought against her.
Prosecutors said she published a series of TikTok videos between late June and early July in which she falsely alleged that President Mahama had performed ritual sacrifices involving 32 cows to secure victory in the 2024 general election.
The prosecution said the claims were made without any evidence.
Before sentencing, the court had remanded Alhassan into lawful custody and ordered that she undergo a pregnancy test.
The prosecution said Alhassan also falsely claimed that the government’s distribution of sanitary pads to victims of the June 29 floods was intended to conceal the alleged rituals.
Investigators said the allegations were entirely unsubstantiated.
The court sentenced Alhassan to one year’s imprisonment after accepting her guilty plea.
