Routine Consular Services at U.S. Embassy in Accra to Pause for Maintenance

The United States Embassy in Accra will suspend most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31 to carry out scheduled maintenance at its facilities, the mission said on Tuesday.

The embassy said normal consular operations are expected to resume on Aug. 3 and advised the public to plan their travel and documentation needs ahead of the temporary suspension.

In a public notice, the embassy said the maintenance work would affect most non-emergency consular services during the period.

Walk-in notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad will be unavailable until regular operations resume, it said.

Some essential services, however, will continue.

The embassy said applicants who have already been notified by email that their U.S. passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) are ready for collection will be able to pick them up on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Adult passport renewal applications submitted through the embassy’s drop-box service will also continue to be processed during the maintenance period. Applicants were advised to follow instructions provided on the embassy’s official website.

Emergency consular assistance for U.S. citizens in Ghana will remain available throughout the maintenance period.

The embassy urged Americans requiring urgent assistance to contact its duty officer through the emergency telephone line.

It also encouraged the public to monitor its website for updates on the restoration of full services and any further operational changes.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra provides services including passport issuance and renewal, registration of births abroad, notarial services, emergency assistance and other citizenship-related matters.

The embassy advised travellers, U.S. citizens and other clients with pending consular matters to make the necessary arrangements before the temporary suspension takes effect on July 20.
