The Ghana Police Service has cautioned motorists against the unauthorized use of sirens, horns, strobe lights and other emergency warning devices on vehicles, warning that the practice poses a serious threat to road safety.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 7, the Police said the use of such emergency devices without lawful authority is prohibited under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
According to the Police, the misuse of sirens and other warning devices causes unnecessary panic among road users and contributes to indiscipline on the country’s roads.
The Service has therefore directed all individuals who have installed such devices on their vehicles without the required authorization to remove them immediately.
The Police disclosed that nationwide enforcement operations are already underway and have resulted in the arrest of several offenders
It warned that the exercise will be intensified in the coming days as authorities work to enforce compliance with the law and promote safety, order and discipline on Ghana’s roads.
The Ghana Police Service urged motorists to cooperate with law enforcement officers by adhering to the regulations governing the use of emergency warning devices.
