Afenyo-Markin Accuses NDC of Deception, Urges NPP Unity Ahead of 2028 Elections

Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has criticised Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of deception and urging opposition supporters to remain united ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at a gathering of New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathisers in Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North Region on Saturday, Afenyo-Markin called for cohesion, discipline and renewed commitment among party members as the opposition prepares for future elections.

The Effutu lawmaker questioned the governing NDC’s performance, arguing that it had failed to meet expectations set during the 2024 election campaign.

“We should ask ourselves, is the NDC delivering on its promises? The NDC is a complete scam. They are 419 people. They come to you and lie to you and when you give them power, they do nothing,” he said.

He warned that the opposition could only regain power if it remained united.

“But they can only achieve that if we ourselves are divided. So today, in Sefwi-Wiawso, I speak to the entire region on behalf of the flagbearer, on behalf of Parliament, on behalf of all the elders of the party and plead with you to unite,” he added.

Afenyo-Markin also urged party supporters to remain vigilant and critically assess the performance of the ruling government, while staying engaged in political discourse at the community level as Ghana moves toward the next election cycle.
