Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve a court injunction on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, amid a deepening succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission, according to a statement issued by the Kwadwo Safo family.
The statement, released on Monday, said the incident occurred at a property linked to Israel Safo during a gathering connected to efforts to install him as leader of the mission following the death of its founder, Kwadwo Safo.
Witnesses reportedly said armed individuals opened fire during the event, with unconfirmed accounts suggesting about 15 rounds were discharged.
The family said Adwoa Safo, described as the recognised head of the Kwadwo Safo family, is in stable condition and responding to medical treatment.
According to the statement, Israel Safo and some church elders had planned a private installation ceremony despite what it said were succession directives left by the late founder.
The family said two church members had obtained a court order to restrain the ceremony and that repeated attempts to serve the injunction on Israel Safo had failed.
It alleged that Adwoa Safo personally moved to deliver the court documents.
“During the encounter, Mr. Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and also instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle,” the statement said.
The matter has since been reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation, the family added.
The incident marks the latest escalation in a succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo on September 11, 2025.
The family claimed the late founder initially named Israel Safo as successor in 2017 but later revoked that decision in 2024, citing concerns over management of church-linked businesses and adherence to founding principles.
It further alleged that Apostle Safo later appointed Adwoa Safo as head of the family and outlined a succession framework excluding Israel Safo from leadership.
The family urged members of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the public to remain calm while security agencies investigate the incident and legal processes determine the leadership dispute.
As of publication, Israel Safo had not publicly responded to the allegations.
