The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) branch of the Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) has called for the immediate reversal of the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and has expressed support for the hospital’s Public Relations Officer (PRO).
In a statement dated June 6, 2026, and signed by KATH Branch Chairman Douglas Kusi and Secretary Essieh Francis, the union said it had taken note of recent developments at the hospital “with grave concern.”
According to the union, the suspension of the CEO and the directive for the KATH Board to investigate the hospital’s PRO amount to an overreach that has worsened an already difficult situation at the facility.
The union argued that the pressing issue requiring urgent attention is the persistent congestion at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Centre, which it said continues to place significant pressure on healthcare delivery and patient care.
“Unfortunately, this critical matter appears to have been sidelined,” the statement said.
HSWU outlined three key demands:
- An immediate review and reversal of the suspension of the KATH CEO;
- The withdrawal of any directive for the KATH Board to investigate the hospital’s PRO in connection with the matter; and
- Urgent action to address congestion at the Accident and Emergency Centre.
The union further declared its unwavering support for both the CEO and the PRO, warning that members of the KATH branch would be prepared to take further action if their demands are not met.
“We remain committed to ensuring that fairness, due process, and the best interest of healthcare delivery at KATH are upheld at all times,” the statement added.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions over management and operational challenges at the tertiary health facility.
