The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned the public against enrolling in, or relying on certificates issued by, 70 tertiary institutions it says are not currently recognised in Ghana due to quality assurance concerns.
In a public notice dated May 28, 2026, the Commission urged prospective students, employers, and the general public to exercise strict due diligence when dealing with qualifications from the listed institutions.
According to GTEC, the institutions are not accredited or recognised in Ghana, and certificates issued by them may not be accepted for academic progression, professional certification, or employment purposes.
“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognised by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns. Accordingly, the public is advised to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by these institutions,” the statement said.

GTEC reiterated that the publication is intended to protect students and uphold the credibility of Ghana’s tertiary education system. The Commission also advised employers and academic institutions to always verify accreditation status before recognising qualifications.
