A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed parts of the Nima Market in Accra.
According to the Fire Service, the incident occurred on Monday, May 11, 2026, with a distress call received at about 10:38 p.m.
The first response team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene at approximately 10:48 p.m. and encountered a rapidly spreading fire.
With support from personnel from the Circle and Parliament Fire Stations, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 11:21 p.m.
The personnel successfully contained and extinguished the fire at about 1:44 a.m.
Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault.
The incident destroyed 10 wooden structures and their contents, while several adjoining structures were successfully protected from the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
The Ghana National Fire Service commended officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Police Service for their support during the emergency response operation.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
