The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticised the National Democratic Congress administration for using harsh bail conditions to intimidate opponents.
He described this as a “vicious cycle” that must come to an end.
“We must all help our democracy to survive. The onerous bail conditions and the vicious cycle must stop,” he said in an exclusive interview with TV3 on Tuesday, May 12.
He was reacting to the rearrest of the Former NAFCO CEO Hanan Abdul-Wahab.
Mr Abdul-Wahab and his wife were re-arrested at the premises of the court complex on May 5th after the Attorney General withdrew charges, including stealing, money laundering and defrauding by false pretences.
Lawyer for Mr Abdul-Wahab and Former Attorney General, Godfred Dame, in an interview with TV3, accused EOCO and the Attorney General of intimidation and torture. He further claimed lawyers of the former NAFCO boss were not granted access to their client over 24 hours after his re-arrest.
Afenyo-Markin, in his comment, said that “It is not the ‘takashi’ efforts that would give EOCO the results. Raymond Archer should allow the systems to work; we’re not in a communist state.”
